Our RV in the campsite at Fort Stevens State Park in Oregon

Recently we spent several nights camping at Fort Stevens State Park, one of our favorite campgrounds on the Oregon coast. It was a great trip filled with new friends, breweries, campfires, and surprisingly great weather.

Everything was great until one morning when we woke up to a puddle of water on the floor next to the toilet. I was relieved to see there were no apparent leaks coming from the ceiling. The next obvious source was the toilet. It didn’t take long to find a small amount of water leaking from just behind the flush pedal.

Thankfully the leak was slow enough that a simple towel around the base of the toilet was enough to prevent any water damage. Once we had the trailer home again I did some research and figured out the most likely culprit was a damaged water valve. That valve is where the inbound water hose connects to the toilet and is routed into the bowl when you step on the flush pedal.

The Repair

The replacement part for our Dometic 300-series toilet is easy to find on Amazon. I went ahead and ordered a 2-pack so I have an extra in case this happens again. Also I can help another camper if they run into the same situation.

Doing the actual replacement was very straightforward and only required a few tools. I actually made a video showing step-by-step how to replace this water valve. You can check it out below:
